Apartments, rooms and studios for rent in Teylingen

Teylingen is a municipality in the heart of the Duin- en Bollenstreek, the bulb-growing corridor that runs between Leiden and the North Sea dunes. It brings together the villages of Sassenheim, Voorhout, and Warmond under one municipal umbrella, each with its own character but all sharing the same fundamental reality: a relatively small, low-density rental market that rewards patience and local knowledge. Renters who end up here typically want space, greenery, and a break from the pricing pressure of bigger South Holland cities, without sacrificing reasonable connections to Amsterdam, Den Haag, or Leiden.

The rental stock is modest by volume, which means listings move quickly when they appear. RentHunter aggregates available rentals across the municipality, covering everything from compact apartments in Sassenheim's center to larger family homes near the tulip fields of Voorhout. If you're weighing your options in this part of Zuid-Holland, this guide covers what's actually available, what it costs, and what daily life looks like once you sign a lease.

• Apartments: the most common rental type Imagine cycling from your apartment near Sassenheim's Hoofdstraat to the Saturday market on the Vrijthof in the village center, picking up seasonal flowers directly from a local grower a few streets away. This is the everyday texture apartment renters get in Teylingen. Most of the apartment stock sits in Sassenheim, which is the largest of the three villages and the one with the most amenities within walking distance.
Apartments in Teylingen tend to be mid-sized units in low-rise blocks or converted townhouses. Supply is tighter than in a regional city, so setting up a search alert and responding fast matters more here than anywhere else.
• Family homes near Voorhout and Warmond Voorhout and Warmond attract renters who specifically want a house with a garden, a garage, or simply more floor space than an apartment allows. Voorhout has newer residential developments built in the post-1990 expansion zones south and east of the old kern, where most rental houses sit. Warmond, smaller and sitting right on the Kagerplassen lakes, leans toward established owner-occupied housing with fewer rentals in circulation.
Family homes in this municipality are scarcer to rent than to buy, which means when a four-bedroom house near the bollenvelden comes up, it attracts interest from multiple directions fast. Rental prices for larger homes reflect the South Holland premium without hitting the levels you'd find in suburban Den Haag or central Leiden.
• Rooms: limited supply, niche demand Shared housing and individual rooms exist in Teylingen but in small numbers. There are no student campuses or large institutional providers here, so the room market is made up of private landlords renting out spare rooms in family homes, or occasional young-professional house shares. If a room in Teylingen itself is hard to find, the nearby Leiden rental market is only a short distance away and offers a much deeper pool of shared housing options.

Teylingen sits in one of the most recognizable landscapes in the Netherlands. In spring, the fields between Sassenheim and Voorhout turn solid blocks of color as the tulip and hyacinth season peaks, and the Keukenhof gardens are a short bike ride from the Voorhout side of the municipality. This isn't a detail for tourists: it means your daily commute bike path in April genuinely looks like a postcard.

The Kagerplassen, a network of interconnected lakes on Warmond's doorstep, are a real local amenity. Sailing clubs, summer swimming spots, and waterside restaurants operate there, and on warm weekends the whole area fills with residents from across the Randstad. For renters who want outdoor access built into everyday life rather than added as a weekend trip, this geography matters.

Each of the three villages has its own weekly market. Sassenheim's Saturday market on the Vrijthof is the largest and the default grocery run for many renters. Voorhout's center, around the Jacoba van Beierenlaan, has a cluster of independent shops and a local supermarket within easy cycling distance of most residential streets. Warmond is small enough that most residents combine it with a trip to Sassenheim for errands.

Cycling infrastructure connects all three villages to each other and to the surrounding municipalities. The fietspaden toward Leiden along the old bulb-growing roads are well-maintained and frequently used by commuters. For daily groceries, school runs, and short errands, a car is entirely optional once you're settled.

The rental population in Teylingen skews toward working adults and families rather than students or young singles. Professionals who commute to Den Haag, Amsterdam, or Leiden form the backbone of demand, attracted by the prospect of more living space at prices that remain somewhat below the core Randstad. Expats working at Leiden Bio Science Park or in Den Haag's international institutions occasionally settle here when they want suburban quiet without sacrificing rail access.

The owner-occupied rate in all three villages is high relative to Dutch averages, which means the rental market is a genuine minority share. This keeps supply limited but also means landlords tend to be private individuals rather than large housing corporations, which can work for or against you depending on what kind of tenancy relationship you prefer.

Teylingen's main rail connection runs from Sassenheim station on the Leiden–Haarlem intercity line. This single line anchors most of the commute decisions renters make when evaluating the municipality. Voorhout and Warmond do not have their own stations, so a bike ride to Sassenheim or a bus connection is necessary from those villages. By car, the A44 motorway runs directly through the municipality, connecting north toward Schiphol and south toward Leiden and Den Haag. Transit times below are by public transport.

At around 41 minutes by public transit, Den Haag is the most reachable major employment center from Teylingen. The intercity from Sassenheim connects south through Leiden directly into Den Haag Centraal. Government workers, legal professionals, and expats at international organizations frequently use this corridor. Compared to renting in Den Haag itself, Teylingen offers quieter surroundings and typically more floor space for a similar budget.

Amsterdam is reachable in around 54 minutes. The Sassenheim intercity heads north toward Haarlem and connects onward to Amsterdam, or you can change at Leiden for the HSL. Professionals working in Amsterdam who want out of the city's rental prices sometimes evaluate Teylingen alongside alternatives like Haarlemmermeer, which sits closer to Schiphol and on a different rail corridor. Both involve a meaningful daily commute, so which you choose depends more on exactly where in Amsterdam your workplace is.
