A room for rent in Ede costs €489 a month on average, based on over 600 room listings tracked by RentHunter since February 2024, and 80% of them asked between €350 and €650. A room in Arnhem averages €595, so Ede comes out 18% cheaper while Utrecht stays 28 minutes away by train.

The Ede room market is a student market first: 42% of room listings are aimed at students. Many of them study at Wageningen University & Research, a bus ride from Ede-Wageningen station, or at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (CHE) in town. 5% of listings target expats, so expect most adverts to be written in Dutch.

In Ede a room (kamer) means your own bedroom in a shared house or flat, 19 m² on average, with the kitchen and bathroom shared with housemates. 28% of the listings are furnished, so plan to bring a bed and a desk unless the advert says otherwise. Room listings in Ede cluster in three areas: the centre around the Markt, the streets on the station side near CHE, and the village of Bennekom on the road to Wageningen. Each one puts you at a different distance from the intercity, the campus and the Veluwe heath.

A room in Ede centrum puts you above the shops of the Grotestraat or in an older terraced house a few streets from the Markt, with supermarkets and cafés within walking distance. The centre suits students in their second or third year and young workers who want an evening out without a ride home. In late August the Heideweek fills the same streets with a parade and the crowning of the Heidekoningin, a tradition that celebrates the heathland around Ede.

The streets between the centre and Ede-Wageningen station are where many Ede student rooms come up, because CHE sits on the Oude Kerkweg close to the station and the buses to the Wageningen campus leave from the station square. From a room here, the intercity platform and the campus bus are both minutes away.

That combination suits a Wageningen student with a side job in Utrecht, or a CHE student who wants to walk to lectures. Rooms in this part of town move fast in August and September, so start looking before the academic year opens.

Bennekom belongs to Ede municipality and lies between Ede and Wageningen, so the campus is an easy cycle away and the woods start at the edge of the village. Fewer rooms come up here than in Ede itself, which makes an alert more useful than a weekly check.

If Bennekom has nothing that fits, the next places to look are rooms in Wageningen, right by the campus, and rooms in Renkum, further along the Rhine towards Arnhem.

The average room in Ede costs €489 a month for 19 m², and 80% of the listings fall between €350 and €650. Deposits average 0.84 months of rent, about €410 on an average room, well under the legal cap of two months of base rent for leases signed since 1 July 2023.

Against Arnhem, at €595, an average Ede room saves about €106 a month, close to €1,300 a year. Extras are rarer than in a full home: 16% of room listings mention a garden, 9% a balcony and 5% parking. If 19 m² is too tight, compare the other property type options, such as apartments in Ede or a house in Ede shared with friends.

Amsterdam is about 64 minutes from Ede by public transit, workable for an internship or a hybrid job with two or three office days a week. From an Ede room, a full five day commute adds more than two hours of travel a day.

Den Haag is about 69 minutes and Rotterdam about 78 minutes from Ede by public transit, both via Utrecht. That suits a student with a weekly lecture or a job interview in the Randstad more than a daily commute.
