Houses for Rent in Borsele

A house for rent in Borsele usually means a family home in a village, with a garden at the back and the Westerschelde dike never far away. Borsele is a municipality of more than ten villages on Zuid-Beveland in Zeeland, from Heinkenszand, where the town hall stands, to 's-Gravenpolder near Goes and Borssele itself in the west. There is no town centre with apartment blocks, so the rental stock is mostly eengezinswoningen: single-family houses, terraced, semi-detached or detached, each with its own front door and garden.

RentHunter sees only a small flow of houses for rent in Borsele, too few for a reliable average rent. This guide therefore covers where to look, how far the cities are and what to check before you sign. Set up a search alert and receive new houses as soon as they are listed: in a market this small, every day counts.

Most renters here work locally, in Goes, Middelburg, Vlissingen or the port and industry of the Sloegebied. Rotterdam, the nearest big city, is about 136 minutes away by public transport.

Borsele has no railway station of its own, so a trip by public transport starts with a bus or a bike ride to the station in Goes, on the line between Vlissingen and Roosendaal. By car, the A58 crosses the north of the municipality towards Goes and Bergen op Zoom, and the Westerscheldetunnel links Borsele to Terneuzen in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.

Rotterdam is the nearest big city from Borsele, about 136 minutes by public transport for 131 km, with the bus to Goes and the intercity from there. The trip suits a hybrid job with one or two office days a week rather than a daily commute.

Den Haag is about 158 minutes from Borsele for 154 km, through Rotterdam. Five hours a day in transit only works with a job that is mostly remote, so most Zeeland renters keep Den Haag for occasional meetings.

Eindhoven is about 166 minutes from Borsele for 156 km, with changes on the way through Brabant. The route works for a weekly visit to a Brainport employer, not for a daily commute.

Borsele is the rural option between two Zeeland towns with larger house markets: Goes to the east and Terneuzen across the Westerschelde. With too few Borsele listings for a reliable average, the fair benchmark is the houses for rent in Goes and the houses for rent in Terneuzen.

Compare like with like: the number of bedrooms, the size in m², whether the price is kale huur (the base rent without service costs) and whether the garden and a parking spot are included. A house in a Borsele village trades shops and nightlife for space and quiet, and you will need a car or an e-bike for most errands. The deposit is capped at two months of base rent for leases signed since 1 July 2023, in Borsele as anywhere else.

Count the travel cost too. If you work in Goes, a house in 's-Gravenpolder keeps the trip short by bike. If you work across the water in Terneuzen, the villages near the tunnel road in the west of the municipality are the logical base. For a furnished house during a project or your first months in Zeeland, look at the furnished houses in Terneuzen.

• Heinkenszand, the municipal seat Heinkenszand is the largest village in Borsele and home to the town hall, with a supermarket, primary schools and sports clubs in the village centre. It suits families who want daily needs within cycling distance.
• 's-Gravenpolder, closest to Goes 's-Gravenpolder lies on the eastern edge of the municipality, the nearest village to Goes, its shops and its station. It suits commuters who want to cycle to the train and still live in a village.
• Borssele and 's-Heerenhoek, the industrial west Borssele, the village that gave the municipality its name, sits near the Sloegebied port area and the nuclear power station on the Westerschelde, and 's-Heerenhoek lies close to the road to the tunnel. Both suit people who work in the port, the industry or across the water in Terneuzen.
• The southern villages among the orchards The southern villages, such as Kwadendamme, Ovezande, Baarland and Hoedekenskerke, sit among the orchards and fields of Zuid-Beveland towards the Westerschelde dike. They suit families who want the quietest setting and are happy to drive for shopping and school runs.
