Best rooms at €588 monthly
Best's room rental market offers something unique in Noord-Brabant: affordable furnished options with quick access to Eindhoven's tech hub. At an average of €588 per month, rooms here cost about 16% more than Eindhoven but come with the charm of a smaller town and easier parking. Many landlords cater specifically to young professionals commuting to ASML, Philips, and other tech companies.
The town's compact size means most rooms are within walking distance of Best station, connecting you to Eindhoven in 20 minutes and Utrecht in 46 minutes. Unlike larger cities where room hunting can take months, Best's smaller rental market moves quickly but with less competition. Most available rooms are in converted family homes near the historic center or newer developments around Best-West.
Best's 20-minute tech hub connection
Best combines small-town livability with big-city connectivity, making it ideal for room renters who want more space for their money. Compare options on RentHunter to find your perfect match.
Brainport Eindhoven within 20 minutes
Best sits in the heart of Brainport Eindhoven, Europe's smartest region. Your room puts you within 20 minutes of ASML, Philips headquarters, and Eindhoven University of Technology. Many landlords specifically cater to international tech workers with furnished rooms and flexible lease terms.
More space than Eindhoven (16% premium)
While 16% more expensive than Eindhoven, Best offers significantly more value. Rooms here are typically larger, often include private bathrooms, and come with parking spaces that cost €150+ monthly in Eindhoven. The weekly market on Wilhelminaplein provides fresh produce at countryside prices, keeping your grocery budget low.
De Kampina nature at doorstep
Best borders the Kampina nature reserve, offering hiking and cycling trails minutes from your room. The town maintains extensive bike paths connecting to Oirschot, Eindhoven, and Son en Breugel. Recreation center De Strijdhoek provides swimming, fitness, and sports facilities that many Eindhoven residents drive here to use.
Best's annual Kermis (fair) in September transforms the town center into a carnival. Many landlords use this week for property maintenance, so avoid scheduling room viewings during Kermis week.
Historic center versus Best-West developments
Best's compact layout means every neighborhood is walkable, but each area has its own character. Most rooms cluster around three main zones, each offering different lifestyles and price points.
Historic center around Wilhelminaplein (€650-750)
The area around St. Odulphuskerk and Wilhelminaplein offers the most character, with rooms in converted historic buildings and traditional Dutch houses. Expect higher prices (€650-750) but unbeatable atmosphere, weekly market access, and walking distance to cafés like De Tapperij and Restaurant Ottel. Most suitable for professionals who appreciate historic charm and don't mind occasional market-day crowds.
Best-West near A2 highway (€520-580)
The newer residential area between Eindhovenseweg and the A2 highway features modern apartments and family homes with converted rooms. Prices average €520-580, making it popular with students and early-career professionals. Close to Best station for easy Eindhoven commutes, plus ample parking and newer construction means better insulation and modern amenities. The trade-off is less village atmosphere but better value for money.
Naastenbest: garden houses near Kampina (€480-550)
This quiet residential area northeast of the center offers the most space and greenery, bordering Kampina nature reserve. Rooms here (€480-550) are often in larger houses with gardens, making it ideal for remote workers who need quiet and nature lovers. The 15-minute bike ride to Best station is your only transport connection, so car ownership helps. Perfect for international professionals working at ASML who prefer suburban tranquility.
Many Best landlords are retired homeowners who rent a single room for extra income. They often prefer long-term tenants and may offer lower rent in exchange for help with garden maintenance or snow clearing.
Quick moves in smaller market
Use RentHunter for Best rooms
Use RentHunter to compare all available rooms in Best across major platforms. Set up alerts for your preferred neighborhoods and price range (€450-750). Best's market moves faster than larger cities, so check daily and respond within hours, not days.
Phone calls preferred over messaging
Contact landlords within 2-3 hours of listing publication. Many Best landlords are older residents who prefer phone calls over messaging apps. Ask about parking availability, internet speed for remote work, and whether utilities are included in the €480-750 range you'll likely see.
BSN from Best gemeente required
Gather your passport/ID, employment contract, recent payslips (3 months), bank statements, and employer reference letter. International workers should get a BSN number first from Best gemeente (Raadhuisplein 1). Many landlords also want to meet in person before deciding, especially in the tight-knit community of Best.
Register address within 5 days
Once accepted, sign the rental agreement and pay the first month plus deposit (typically 1-2 months' rent). Immediately register your address at Best gemeente within 5 days. This registration is mandatory and required for everything from banking to healthcare in the Netherlands. Most Best rooms include utilities, but confirm this covers internet speed adequate for your work needs.
Room costs and commute questions
How much should I budget for a room in Best?
Expect €480-750 monthly depending on location and amenities. Historic center rooms cost €650-750, while Best-West and Naastenbest average €480-580. Most include utilities and internet, but parking may be extra. Budget an additional €100-150 for groceries and transport since Best has limited shopping compared to larger cities.
Is Best good for students?
Best works well for TU/e and other Eindhoven students who want quieter, more affordable living. The 20-minute train ride to Eindhoven Centraal costs about €80 monthly with a student discount. However, Best lacks the nightlife and student community of central Eindhoven. Consider student rooms in Eindhoven if social life is important to you.
How competitive is the Best room market?
Less competitive than Amsterdam or Utrecht, but faster-moving than you might expect for a small town. Good rooms typically receive 5-10 inquiries versus 50+ in major cities. Response time is crucial since many landlords are older residents who work on a first-come, first-served basis. Being available for same-day or next-day viewings significantly improves your chances.
What about commuting to work from Best?
Best excels for tech workers in Brainport Eindhoven. Direct trains reach Eindhoven in 20 minutes, Utrecht in 46 minutes, and Amsterdam in 73 minutes. Many ASML, Philips, and NXP employees live here for the reverse commute advantage. However, public transport to other cities requires connections through Eindhoven, so consider rooms in Tilburg if you work there instead.
