Westland apartments: greenhouse views from €900
Westland's apartment market offers something unique in Zuid-Holland: modern living surrounded by vast greenhouse complexes that create the world's most advanced agricultural landscape. You'll find sleek apartment buildings nestled between tomato farms and orchid nurseries, creating an unusual blend of urban comfort and agricultural innovation. Many flats here come with panoramic views of glass houses stretching to the horizon, particularly in newer developments around Naaldwijk and Wateringen.
Prices for apartments in Westland typically range from €900-€1,400 per month, making it an attractive alternative to Den Haag's higher costs while maintaining excellent transport links. The 38-minute connection to Den Haag makes this municipality popular with government workers and international professionals seeking more space for their money. Compare options across the region using RentHunter to find your ideal flat in this unique corner of the Netherlands.
Most apartments here are purpose-built for modern living, with energy-efficient heating systems essential for the occasionally humid microclimate created by the surrounding greenhouses. Many buildings include underground parking and storage spaces, reflecting the practical needs of residents who often work in both traditional office settings and the innovative agricultural sector that defines this region.
Commuting from Westland
Living in Westland puts you strategically positioned between major Zuid-Holland cities, with excellent bus connections compensating for the lack of direct train services. The regional bus network RET connects all Westland municipalities efficiently, while the proximity to the A4 and A20 highways makes car commuting viable for those working across the Randstad.
Den Haag (38 minutes)
Just 38 minutes by bus to the heart of government district, making Westland popular with civil servants and embassy staff. The direct bus lines 385 and 23 run frequently throughout the day, connecting you to Den Haag Centraal and the city center. Many residents appreciate the reverse commute, avoiding the crowds heading into Amsterdam.
Rotterdam (50 minutes via Delft)
A 50-minute journey by bus and metro connects you to Rotterdam's business district and port area. Many logistics and maritime professionals choose Westland for the balance between career opportunities in Europe's largest port and affordable housing. The route via Delft offers a scenic break with the option to continue by train from Delft station.
The RET day pass (dagkaart) covers all buses within Westland and extends to Den Haag trams, making it cost-effective for daily commuters to the capital.
Westland's apartment prices offer significant savings compared to nearby cities, with typical monthly rents around €200-400 less than equivalent flats in Den Haag. A modern two-bedroom apartment that would cost €1,800 in The Hague might rent for €1,400 in Naaldwijk or Wateringen. This price advantage makes Westland particularly attractive for young professionals and couples looking to maximize their living space without compromising on modern amenities.
The trade-off is clear: you'll spend an extra 30-45 minutes commuting daily, but you'll gain considerably more space and often a parking spot included in your rent. Many residents find the balance worthwhile, especially those who value having access to outdoor spaces and the unique landscape of greenhouse agriculture. For international professionals working at organizations like the International Criminal Court or various embassies in Den Haag, the savings can fund weekend trips or higher-quality furnishings for their larger apartments.

Is Westland good for expats who don't speak Dutch?

Most landlords require proof of income (3-4x monthly rent), employment contract, and references. Response times are typically within 2-3 days rather than same-day decisions. Start your search on RentHunter to compare all available apartments and respond quickly to listings that interest you.
Are there good cycling routes from Westland apartments?

Should I consider houses instead of apartments in Westland?
Houses in Westland offer more space and gardens but typically cost €300-500 more per month than apartments.
