Apartments, rooms and studios for rent in Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten

Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten is a Noord-Brabant municipality that sits about 10 km east of Eindhoven. Most people who rent here are not here because the municipality itself is a destination; they are here because renting in Eindhoven itself has become increasingly expensive and competitive. The calculation is simple: accept a 29-minute public transit ride into Eindhoven in exchange for more space, quieter surroundings, and lower monthly costs. That trade-off defines the rental market here.

The municipality is three villages in one administrative unit: the largest is Nuenen, known internationally as the place where Vincent van Gogh lived and painted in the 1880s; Gerwen and Nederwetten are smaller and almost entirely residential. The housing stock reflects a suburban Noord-Brabant profile: detached and semi-detached houses dominate, apartments are available but fewer in number, and rooms aimed at students are rare. If you want to compare what is currently listed across all types, RentHunter aggregates listings from major Dutch rental platforms in one place.

The core appeal of renting in Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten is square metres per euro. Eindhoven's rental market, particularly for apartments and houses near the station or the Strijp-S area, commands significantly higher prices. Families looking for a three- or four-bedroom house with a garden typically find Nuenen more accessible than central Eindhoven. Young couples saving for a mortgage often do the same calculation: rent a proper house here for two or three years, keep commute costs manageable, and build savings faster than they could in the city.

The trade-off is real, though. Nuenen is not well-served by heavy rail; most public transit connections to Eindhoven run by bus. The 29-minute journey is realistic for off-peak travel but can stretch during morning rush hours. For people working three days in the office and two at home, this is very manageable. For five-day commuters, it is worth stress-testing the actual route before signing a lease. Car ownership is common here, and many residents drive to Eindhoven's Woensel or Tongelre areas rather than rely solely on buses.

The rental stock in Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten is shaped by decades of suburban construction typical of Noord-Brabant municipalities. Large housing associations (woningcorporaties) own a chunk of the social housing stock, while the private rental sector leans heavily toward family-sized houses. If you are arriving from a city looking for a studio or a compact apartment, you will find fewer options here than in Eindhoven or Tilburg. The private market caters to tenants who want space, not density.

Terraced (rijtjeshuizen), semi-detached, and detached family houses make up the bulk of what is available to rent privately in Nuenen and the surrounding villages. These are typically two- to four-bedroom properties with a garden and a garage or parking space, targeting families or couples who have outgrown apartment living. Turnover is lower here than in a student city: tenants tend to stay for years, so available listings appear irregularly. Browsing houses for rent in Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten gives you a real-time picture of what is currently on the private market.

Apartments exist in Nuenen, mainly ground-floor and first-floor flats in small blocks near the Nuenen village center around the Berg and along Europalaan. They suit single professionals or couples who prefer not to maintain a full house and garden. The supply is thin compared to what you would find in Eindhoven, so competition for good apartments here can be surprisingly stiff despite the smaller scale. Check apartments in Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten and set up an alert, because well-priced units often appear and disappear quickly.

• Nuenen center: around the Van Gogh church and market The heart of Nuenen sits around the Bergkerk (the church van Gogh famously painted) and the Markt square where the weekly Wednesday market runs. Rentals here are apartments and older row houses within walking distance of supermarkets, the library, and the local bus stops on Janssen Hooistraat. This is the most walkable part of the municipality and suits tenants who want to limit car dependency while still being in a suburban setting.
• Nuenen-West: post-war family suburbia near De Beemd The western expansion of Nuenen contains streets of 1960s and 1970s rijtjeshuizen favored by families with school-age children. The primary schools in this area and the sports complex at De Beemd (with football pitches and a small athletics track) make it well-suited for households with kids. Rents for three-bedroom terraced houses in this area tend to be among the more accessible in the private sector. Turnover is low, so patience is required.
• Gerwen and Nederwetten: rural quiet, minimal amenities The two smaller villages are almost entirely residential, with no supermarkets or train connections of their own. Rentals here are mostly older farmhouse-style properties or 1980s and 1990s houses, and they occasionally appear on the private market at prices that reflect their remoteness from amenities. If you rent in Gerwen or Nederwetten, a car is not optional, it is essential. The N615 connects these villages to Nuenen center and onward to Eindhoven by road, but public transit coverage is sparse.

There is no train station in Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten. All public transit to nearby cities runs via bus, primarily connecting to Eindhoven Centraal where you can transfer to the national rail network. The main bus lines operate from stops along the Nuenen center and the Europalaan corridor. For destinations beyond Eindhoven, you will travel to Eindhoven Centraal first and continue from there by intercity train. The frequency and coverage of bus routes is decent toward Eindhoven but drops sharply for evening and weekend travel.

At around 29 minutes by bus, Eindhoven is the primary reason most people rent in Nuenen rather than in the city itself. The ASML campus in Eindhoven's north, the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), and the High Tech Campus attract a workforce that often prefers suburban space over city-center living. The direct bus routes into Eindhoven Centraal are frequent during peak hours; off-peak services thin out, which matters if your working hours are irregular.

Reaching Utrecht takes around 78 minutes by public transit, including the bus to Eindhoven Centraal and an intercity connection. This is a long but manageable trip for hybrid workers doing two or three days per week in the Randstad. Tilburg is reachable in under an hour once you are at Eindhoven Centraal, making it viable for daily commuters working in Tilburg. Amsterdam and Den Haag are both over 100 minutes away and are generally not realistic for daily commuting from Nuenen.
